Blind teen amazes with video game ability

I'm sure we've all read about Brice by now in one form or another. I figured I'd link the CNN report on it for posterity.

CNN.com - Blind teen amazes with video game ability - July 28, 2005

While simply amazing, I also find the article quite... humorous especially with recent events versus gaming. There are parts in the article where they go into detail explaining on how people facing him have their characters "decapitated, eviscerated and gutted without mercy" as well as having to watch "his blood-spattered character's corpse vanishes from the screen."

Hmm... think someone has a sub-agenda here? I wonder when we'll see our first lawsuit against Brice for pushing the violence inherent in the system!

Even though he can't see it.

Separation of MMO and RPG

First go and read this:

GamerGod

Done? Good. It's a good read.

My take on this is a simple one. When people saw MMORPG they thought "wow, a place I can go and role-play"... Unfortunately they were looking at it the wrong way. Double unfortunately this caught on and those that wanted to actually RP were left out in the cold more and more...

MMORPG's, to me, were simply extensions of CRPG's. Computer Role-Playing Games. Games where you had stats, you killed things, you leveled, and you got phat lewt. Do the quests, kill the Foozle, all is well. Role-playing here was a very literal translation of the concept. You were playing a role. Mostly, you were playing a role to kill things to get gold. The big difference that MMO's added was that you could do all of that with thousands of your closest friends.

Ah well. It's too late to try and change what people think MMORPG means. I agree at this point they should just be called MMOG's and leave it at that.

bash.org IRC Quotes

I've been a fan of the bash.org IRC quote lists for years now. I think today I read the single most brilliant IRC quote joke I have ever read:

QDB: Quote #515093

Armstrong wins 7th Tour de France

It has come to pass:

2005 Tour de France - Armstrong wins 7th Tour de France

Conga! to Lance and his record breaking 7th win. I've been watching a lot of specials on him on DiscoveryHD and I must say that it is simply amazing to watch him do his thing.

Will there be anyone else that can ever break his record? Sure... All records are broken eventually. Do I think it'll happen in the next 50 years? Probably not. =)

Virtual Street Reality

This is just brilliant. I love how the artist even gets "into" the pictures after he's done drawing them out. Especially like the one at the bottom with him in a bathing suit.

Virtual Street Reality

The one of him "digging" in the middle of the street to find some buried treasure is also just impressive to look at.

Note: The "Blog This!" button on the new googlebar for firefox is just way too powerful of a button. =)

PS3 MEETING: PSP's Future News Story From 1UP.COM

Well it looks like Sony's giving us PSP users at least *something* that we're wanting.

PS3 MEETING: PSP's Future News Story From 1UP.COM

Specifically I'm talking about having the PSP have built in web browsing with this upcoming "version 2" firmware upgrade. Being able to have the PSP be used as a portable wireless web browser will be sweet.

Heck, even at home, there are plenty of times I want to check something on the web while I'm downstairs, but don't want to lug my laptop out, or whatnot. Now I can just bring my PSP and check things out with it. I wonder if they'll let it support a USB keyboard via the USB port. That'd be sweet.

Ah... Family Guy

Any show that can fit in a nicely re-done version of A-ha's "Take On Me" certainly is enjoyable for me. Especially since it has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline at all. Heh.

YAY!!!!! I'm so happy!!!

So I've not been doing much with the BF2 crowd and other things as I've been dealing with a personal crisis of sorts.

Other then all the stuff going on with my family, I had some stuff show up and we went down that road of it potentially being cancerous.. After things ending up at the 50/50 mark for cancer/not cancer... I just got back the results... and it's benign!!!

YAY!

I think i'm going to go pass out now. Heh.

I'm so happy.

EDIT: As an edit, I'd like to thank all of my friends and family (especially Mom and Dad) that have been supportive of me during this very trying time. Wookiee needs sleep... badly!

Just one more month/ship/fight!

Sid Meier's Pirates!

So this is a bit of old news since this game's been out for a while... But I was looking for something to play off and one between rounds of Battlefield 2.

Sweet Monkey Jebus! This game's started a new phrase for me... Out with "Just one more turn!" and in with "Just one more month/ship/fight!"

They certainly kept the basic feel of the original Pirates! game, but successfully, upgraded it and updated it. The DDR'esque dance sequences are a bit much at times, but the game is heinously addictive.

Can't wait to play some more of it tonight once I get my running around done.
