Warioware Touched

So I never played the original Wariorware on the GBA, but read plenty about it. The concept always hit me as one of those simple ideas that everyone always steps over to try and find the Next Big Thing(TM). So when I had heard that they were doing one for the DS, fully utilizing the touch screen capabilities, I knew I was looking forward to it.

After having picked it up last Friday, and playing it over the weekend, I must say that if you own a DS you *MUST* pick up this game.

You are given the simplest of instructions (These games require you to only tap... These games require you to slice, etc) and then thrown into the game of your choice. Given about a 1 to 2 second reprieve between games (that take up to 5 seconds to complete at best) the pace becomes frantic as it speeds up the more games you win based on whichever character you chose.

It is one of those games in which I feel that I'm learning something. In this case how to evaluate a situation in a split second and determine the correct course of action in another split second and be able to complete said action within a few seconds total.

It's quite exhilarating in a lot of ways.

It's also neat how they use the DS's built in mic to be used as the device that you have to blow into for some of the game types. I was messing around with it with one of the toys you get in the game and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually had some sort of "wind" sensor built into the mic's cavity being able to tell how hard or soft you blow into it. It seems WAY to precise to be just "listening" for the sound of you blowing into it.

Of course if that is the case, next thing you'll see is Warioware Breath-a-lizer!

So while I don't think this game necessarily has long legs, it will be something that I'll pop into the DS from time to time once the initial "like new" smell wears off. At least until the next version comes out. =)
