National Talk like a Pirate Day!

Ahoy Matey!

I feel ashamed that I need to be reminded of this day, but the Hobbit did a fine job of beating me over the head with it.

As she should... This is a wonderful day indeed! ARRRR!

Drop your plank over at the site that tells the tale of it all or check out Dave Barry's column from '02 that really got the cannonball rolling.

Either which way, ye should board someone's ship, fire off a broadside, or just drink lots and lots of grog... For today... Everyone talks like a pirate!

Battlestar Galactica and memories...

This show just gets better and better. For me being a fan of the original series I love to see when the current guys in charge throw us a bone now and again as a homage to that which went first.

Wow... All I've got to say is that I was certainly surprised and blown away tonight. I've always been someone who's been impressed with good use of sound... good music... good sound effects... etc...

So it was certainly a surprise when I started to hear bits and pieces of the original BSG's theme in the later part of the episode. That was enough for me... but no... They went and cranked that song up full volume and even arranged it with some footage of that news reel with the pilots walking down the hallway.

Walking past the lone figure of a man mopping the hallway... a man who had been whistling the same theme just moments before.

This is what it means to be a fan and to be overjoyed by something even as minor as that shows up. Very similar to when Dr. Swan (the character the late Christopher Reeves played) first showed up on Smallville and you heard bits of the original movie Superman theme...

It's something just that simple that unlocks and reconnects you with those memories that you had from an earlier time. I always love it when it's something good and I can whoop and holler over it. =)

Jake's Okay!

Just got an email back from my ex-EQ guildie Jake (Tevren for all you ex-Tunare peoples):

I'm alive. Finally got access to a computer with internet. As far as I know, my apartment and new house were both spared by the storm from flooding. As for wind damage, I do not know. Also, there's a possibility either or both homes could have been looted by vandals. I won't know for a long time unfortunately.

I'm currently staying in Baton Rouge with various friends and family until we know more about if/when we can get back into Plaquemines Parish. Sadly, my parents, grandparents, and several other family members have had their homes completely destroyed. They've lost everything.

Information if you'd like to get in touch with me:

***Edited Out***

Just found out I'll be going down there to check on everything Sunday. Will try to let folks know what's up in a few days.

~Jake

So while that totally sucks to hear about the rest of his family's stuff, I'm glad to hear that it sounds like all of them got out okay. Houses can be rebuilt, items can be re-bought, but lives can't be.

I'll keep y'all informed as I hear things from him. I'm *so* happy that he and his family are okay.
