Weekend Update - 5/31/05

((Going to be trying this out based on something that happens on one of the mailing lists I'm on.))

Ended up cleaning up around the house on Saturday, as well as picking up my comic pulls from the Hole. When there are two previews in there, it's been a while. Edie normally emails around this point telling me I have a "shitton" of comics in my box.

Played some more Lego Star Wars on my xbox. One of the best Star Wars games around. The Star Wars theme disco room is just wrong on so many levels. I loved it.

On Sunday a bunch of the gang went to go see the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra play the Lord of the Rings Symphony. Basically it's parts of the soundtrack the Howard Shore wrote for the Lord of the Rings movies. It was very well done. There were a couple low spots, of course, but overall I really liked it. The male and female soloists they had were incredible.

Monday is normally DnD night, but with it being a holiday Chris and Chris had a food/grilling based get together before hand. The plan was for everything to start at 4, and for the spouses/kids to get sent home around 6. Well didn't quite work out that way. Heh. I ended up really not wanting to DM last night, especially with a couple of the guys not able to play. So we were able to relax the rest of the evening and play some stuff that Skinny had. Hoopla is a fun game. Especially with the modified house rules that we were using. I like team games like that.

Are you a Civilization addict?

Have you ever sat there at some ungodly hour of the morning saying to yourself, "Just one more turn... Just one more turn."

Then this site is for you.

Heh. Interesting marketing angle. I especially like how they sneak the screen shots into the Support Blog section.

Seriously, I fear for my free time when Civ IV does come out. It's one of the games that I'm really looking forward to this year.

Maybe a little too much. =)

E3's in the air!

So it's that time of year again. Time for the various gaming companies to gather in one spot and try and make their booth the most deafening and blinding experience around. For some of the people there it's the closest thing to being on an acid trip they'll ever be.

That's right! I'm talking about E3.

I'll be heading out bright and early tomorrow to join up with the rest of the pre-show crew in helping to put our booth together. The show itself doesn't start till Wednesday, so it should be fairly easy to shut my brain off for the next two days.

Then chaos explodes.

At least we generally don't have to worry about people stinking as much as they do when they go to GenCon. Heh.

Anywho... it should be interesting as always. This year is fun due to all of the hype behind the new consoles coming out. Otherwise as long as you go to E3 about every 2-3 years you pretty much see everything.

I'm actually stoked about our booth this year. There's a lot of effort that's gone into it, and it should turn out fairly interesting. If nothing else the movie that we'll be showing for Imperator in the movie room is going to be wicked. I saw a near final version and I think it's great.

Plus I'll have a little fun with the Mythic Webcam. I'm the one that is responsible for getting it out there, set up, etc. It'll be set to take a pic every 30 seconds, and the site will show you the current pic, plus the last 10 mins worth of pics. I'll be saving all of the pics on the laptop it's connected to, so that way we can go through them afterwards and see if we have any really juicy ones. =)

Anywho... time to go pack and stuff. I'm sure I'll see some of you out there. I'll be at the booth pretty much the entire time. =)

Sad News...

My Great-Grandma Smith passed away. She was a classic "sweet old lady" that always liked her only grandson on the side of the family I'm on.

I saw her four years ago at her 90th B-Day party. Even though she hadn't seen me in many years she recognized me right away as I bent down to give her a hug. She may have been 90 and fairly frail, but she still had a hug that could crush the wind out of you.

Her husband passed away about 8 years ago. So she'd been living with one of her daughters for the last few years.

From what I gather talking with family members it wasn't a "surprise" that she passed away as I guess she had been just fading in recent history.

Even still... she was one of my favorites, and I miss her dearly. But now she's with my Great-Grandfather wherever they are. He'll be tending to his garden, and she'll be making her home-made thick egg noodles to go with the veggies he picks.

Man... I'll miss those noodles. :/ I know I already miss her.

Good bye Grandma... I love you.

Round Table

Well I think I managed to survive the Round Table. More importantly I think most everyone that showed up had a good time.

I actually enjoyed staying in the "lan room" both friday night and saturday watching over the computers (when we weren't blowing power circuits as noone could tell us how the room was laid out power wise) and being able to see various players log in and fool around in the game.

I think at this point I've seen about as wide a variety of characters that you can see from our game. Was very fun being able to watch people RvR, PvE, and everything in between. Someone even spent their ~20 mins crafting.

Overall, a good experience all around, methinks. Now to try and get some rest. =)
